woah

Last night Robert and I headed to Sacramento to meet Lillie and Ken for an engagement session. Lillie saw my ad on CraigsList and inquired about having some pictures taken to share with their family before their May 16th wedding in San Diego. I had an absolute BLAST hanging out with them and experimenting with my camera. This was my first "non-family or friend" shoot, and certainly my first formal session. We spent about two hours tramping around the Capitol and Old Sac. The capitol has some beautiful gardens but due to the dark clouds, most of the areas covered by trees were too dark. However, Old Sac is an amazing place to take photos and I highly recommend it for a portrait session!

Taking the pictures was the fun part. Then I came home and started to filter through some of our work. We had 600 pictures between the two of us! I sorted out the "bad" ones (i.e. closed eyes, blurry, etc.) and chose my favorites amongst a series of 5 or 6 shots in the same pose. All said and done I was able to pare it down to about half of what we started with. Now I am just staring at the files, knowing that I want to put some finishing touches on them (a little color correction and some exposure adjustments) and I have no idea where to start! That's quite a task!! I am sure as I continue down this path I will learn ways of streamlining my workflow...that will include becoming more familiar with Photoshop and hopefully purchasing Lightroom so I can use presets. Until then, I will chose my favorites and edit those :-)

I hope to have the pictures blogged in the next couple of days, but until then here's one of my favorite assistant (who turned out to not be such a bad photographer himself!)
